The Satyashodhak was founded on 17 April 2020. The name of this publication takes inspiration from the movement that began with the founding of Satyashodhak Samaj by Mahatma Jotirao Phule in 1873. The members of Phule’s organisation were called ‘satyashodhaks’ or truth-seekers. The satyashodhak movement in the next few decades revolutionised modern Maharashtra by offering a systematic critique of the caste system for the first time.
The Satyashodhak aims to take this legacy forward. It publishes original articles offering a radical perspective on social issues, produces translations of historically important texts, republishes out-of-copyright articles and books, and serves as a discussion forum for all progressive movements in India. The Satyashodhak is a bilingual journal publishing material in both English and Marathi.
The Satyashodhak was launched on 17 April 2020.
